In the reel lay method, the reel hub, or main reel, is crucial for storing the pipe, with its diameter dictating the maximum pipe size—typically limited to 16 to 18 inches due to flexibility constraints. This method is the fastest, allowing up to 30 kilometers of pipe to be laid per day. Most welding is done onshore, reducing offshore weld requirements. Tensioners on the vessel handle the catenary load and assist in spooling pipe onto the reel. The lay tower offers adjustable angles, making it versatile for different water depths and lay tensions. Tensioner pads and hang-off modules are key components, accommodating various pipe sizes and coatings, with the hang-off module providing higher load capacity for emergency situations.
