Introduction to Subsea Pipe Installation- Innovation in the Oil Industry

Evolution & Challenges in Deepwater Oil Pipeline Installation

Today’s oil industry remains highly cyclical, with prices fluctuating dramatically, impacting new developments and driving innovation. Significant price drops in 2007, 2014, and during the pandemic forced the industry to become more efficient, leading to advancements in pipeline materials and fabrication methods, such as the use of corrosion-resistant alloys. These materials, while addressing operational challenges like high temperature, pressure, and complex oil chemistry, also present new engineering challenges. Additionally, new riser technologies have emerged to support deeper water operations, now reaching depths of 3000 to 4000 meters, with recent years seeing the deployment of advanced pipeline assets by installation contractors.
