This beginner-level self-paced course is designed for pipeline professionals.

By the end of this course, learners will gain a foundational awareness of RIN 2137-AF39, commonly known as the Mega Rule Part Two. Issued by the Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) in August 2022 and effective from May 2023, this regulation introduces critical updates to gas transmission pipeline safety.

Participants will explore key topics such as repair criteria, integrity management improvements, cathodic protection, and management of change. The course also covers essential amendments to several subparts of the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 Part 192, including:

Subpart G: General Construction Requirements for Transmission Lines and Mains
Subpart I: Requirements for Corrosion Control
Subpart L: Operations
Subpart M: Maintenance

ABOUT TIM
Tim has provided compliance and engineering support to major oil and natural gas pipeline operators across the United States. He has been responsible for ensuring all aspects of PMHSA compliance.

 He has overseen PHMSA inspections of design, construction, operations and maintenance, cathodic protection, integrity management, control room management, and operator qualification as a former Pipeline Safety Compliance Engineer at a major natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline operator.

He presently provides specific “mega-rule” consulting support to operators including third party audits, as well as recommendations for program improvements and oversight.

Dr. Jain has provided pipeline integrity training and technical support to dozens of major operators in nine different countries including major transmission and distribution pipeline operators across the United States.

His areas of expertise include cathodic protection, AC interference, hydrogen service, inline inspection, direct assessment, risk-based inspection, NDT, materials selection, corrosion assessment, fitness-for-service assessment, welding, protective paints and coatings, pressure equipment mechanical repair, and materials failure analysis.
