HDD Reaming Process in Pipeline Installation
This section explains the reaming process, which follows the successful drilling of a pilot hole during pipeline installation. The hole is expanded to accommodate the product pipe by using a reamer, typically 1.5 times the pipe's diameter. For smaller pipes (less than 8 inches), a larger reaming size is recommended to ensure sufficient annular space for mud flow and debris removal. For pipes over 24 inches, a reamer 12 inches larger than the pipe is suggested to balance technical needs with cost-efficiency.
